L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Thermo Cell Cream

I’m so in love with this that I don’t know which category to list it under – beauty or sex.  Perfection!!!

If your hair is quite damaged and you’re looking for heat protection, look no further. This is it.  Just apply the cream (milk?) to the lengths and ends (avoiding roots!) and style as usual. It will keep your hair in  fab condition, whatever the heated tools! I promise you this. And so does L’Oréal, I suppose. 🙂 For official info click here.

And remember, less is more!

WOULD I REPURCHASE? If I ever run out of this, most certainly.

L’Oréal Paris Elvive Nutri-Gloss Crystal

As I might have mentioned before, my hair is not my best asset.  Thus I’m on a never-ending quest for that miracle hair product that will transform my fine, dull wavy hair to Serena van der Woodsen‘s locks.  Needless to say, in order to accomplish that mission impossible various brands were tried. …  L’Oréal Paris Elvive Nutri-Gloss Light range is the one I seem to return to. So when I came across this new version of my fav shampoo, conditioner and 60 second saviour combo, I was thrilled and got all three. Unlike the original version, Crystal is sparkling, too! What more can a girl ask for?

Hair products or life, chemistry at first sight (I refuse to call it love!) might or might not last…

  •  a very light formula that can be used everyday
  • developed with longer, dull hair in mind
  • makes hair soft and managable
  • ah, yes, and it’s sparkling…
  • relatively affordable

  • does nothing to improve shine – the main purpose of the glitter?!
  • made my scalp a bit itchy

Would I repurchase? Not likely. I’m going back to my long term relationship with L’Oréal Paris Elvive Nutri-Gloss Light . This short affair defeats its own purpose – high on glitter, low on shine! Come to think of it, this could perhaps be true for more than a shampoo!

TIP: If you’re not completely satisfied with your hair conditioner but can’t justify throwing it away, you can always use it as a perfect shaving cream. Guys included – my bf is a convert!

L’Oréal Professionnel Fiberceutic – hair botox?

Hair botox without the dreaded botulinum toxin, that is. In the past two years hair salons are advertising it like crazy. So what’s the hype really about? Of course, it has nothing to do with botox – it’s just a clever  pun.  It’s a fibre-filling deep conditioner really.  Pretty good one, though.  There are 3 products available:

1.) Hair filling serum (IN SALONS ONLY. And online, of course)  – in L’Oréal’s words:

Hair rehab starts here! FIBERCEUTIC is série expert’s first two-step fibre-filling in-salon treatment enriched with Intra-CylaneTM, a water-activated molecule that is able to deposit in the hair as evaporation takes place and it is designed to help reinforce the protective layer of hair. Followed by the special sealer, hair feels softer and looks revitalised.

fiberceutic serum

2.)  Fiberceutic Restorative Hair Sealing Treatment – (IN SALONS ONLY). The sealer is the second step of the process. It’s advertised as ”a weightless sealing treatment for hair. Enriched with Intra-Cylane, a water-activated molecule that sticks in hair when evaporation occurs.Seals hair cuticle while consolidating the protective layer of hair. Restores hair fiber without overloading it.Hair appears fuller, suppler, healthier & more lustrous.”

3.) Fiberceutic hair masque (for fine or thick hair):  ”This nourishing and replenishing masque, specifically designed for fine hair, helps prolong the effect of the FIBERCEUTIC fibre-filling service at home. Enriched with Intra-CylaneTM, the formula maintains fine hair’s natural volume and keeps it conditioned and supple between FIBERCEUTIC in salon treatments.”

I have tried all three and fell in love with the mask.  The in-salon treatment (first two products) come at around 10 pounds; the effects are meant to last for a month.  I have done the treatment only once, to no visible improvement.  Therefore, I wasn’t really convinced to go back… Perhaps I should give it another go as the hair mask did a lot to help my poor hair recover from dying – in both senses of the word! My number one hair treatment for sure!

TIP:  Apply the hair mask on dry hair before shampooing and conditioning. For best results leave it in overnight and shampoo in the morning.

Joico K-pak Protect&Shine Serum vs L’Oréal Professionnel Lumino Contrast serum

Recently I’ve been experimenting with hair serums – might do a blog giveaway soon as my bathroom is getting too small quickly, so look out for the giveaway 😉

Back to hair serums – got this 2 online, both on sale at Cheapsmells.

JOICO K-pak Shine & Protect Serum  (for official information click HERE)

    1. nice packaging, decent price
    2. very sweet smell (fruity? can’t really put my finger on it!)
    3. somewhat thick, oily consistency, therefore a bit too heavy for fine hair like mine
    4. hair feels soft and nourished
    5. not much improvement in shine, I’m afraid!

L’Oréal Professionnel Lumino Contrast serum  (for official info click HERE)

  1. cutest girlie design!
  2. smart close which prevents leakage
  3. fresh, barely-there smell
  4. truly lightweight yet very nourishing
  5. gives noticeable shine and softness

… and the winner is…L’Oréal Professionnel Lumino Contrast!

TIP: Hair serums are best applied to wet, towel-dried hair, concentrating on the ends!

Dior Diorshow Iconic (in black)

What Dior says:

A Dior exclusive innovation for a revolutionary oblique brush. The incredibly soft elastomer brush features slanted bristles to capture each lash one by one. In one quick stroke, with no special application method necessary, the brush acts like a brushing on lashes. Enriched with a unique lifting formula, Diorshow Iconic sculpts, stretches and curves the lashes with extreme hold and high definition.

Diorshow Iconic

What I say:

I love Dior. I’m a true Dior Addict. But no matter how much I tried loving this, I just couldn’t. .. Due to not-so-rave reviews on MUA (it’s always a good idea to check any high-end products there before splurging on them) I purchased this mascara as a GWP version on ebay.  So glad I didn’t pay the full price! Anyhow, Diorshow Iconic  is just your plain average mascara. Sure, it makes the lashes darker and somewhat thicker. But that’s about it. As my lashes are almost Asian-like poker straight, I always go for a curling mascara. Although Diorshow Iconic is clearly advertised as a curling mascara it did nothing to hold my curl. It did a great job of weighing the lashes back down after a careful application of Shu Uemura eyelash curler though! However, had no issues with smudging and the staying power is alright.

I haven’t found my HG mascara yet, so sticking with L’oreal Lash Architect Waterproof until I do so…

Would I repurchase? As I’m in dire need of a good curling mascara and this is all but, definitely no.

Girls, any recommendations for a mascara that holds the curl???

Beauty tips I wish I knew 10 years ago!

Do you ever feel like your day is waaaayy too short? Or that your salary is waaaaayy too low given how much you work? Same here.  So here is a list of my favourite beauty tips & tricks that make my every day beauty routine a bit more hasslefree and my salary a bit more manageable 😀

  • keep your feet moisturized by applying your regular body lotion (I absolutely adore Nivea Q10 Firming Body lotion) to your feet and toenails every day – you will save a few quid on pedicures as the skin on your feet will stay soft even during winter. Key words: every day!
  • if your skin is not extremely sensitive, consider using an AHA based body exfoliator/ scrub every week (L’Oreal Exfotonic is my HG) – the effect is immediate.
  • the best way to prevent razor cuts and burns while shaving is to do it S-L-O-W-L-Y!

  • clean your nails with an alcohol wipe before applying nail polish – removing all traces of grease will help the polish last much longer!
  • to whiten your nails take two halves of a lemon, dig holes in them with your fingers and soak your nails in this fruit nail salad for 10 minutes 😉  Caution: don’t do it if you have any cuts on your fingers – it will sting!
  • nail polish can be cheap as long as you like the colour and you use a good top coat (my HG is Sally Hansen’s Dry & Go Protein Top Coat).  Frankly, I haven’t noticed much difference between Chanel and those cheap mini no name ones – they all last at least 5 days with Sally Hansen top coat on.

  • apply hair masks or treatments / oils before washing your hair and leave them on for as long as possible, but avoid the scalp! Continue with your regular shampoo and conditioner routine. This way you will get nourished but not weighed down hair.
  • if your scalp gets itchy only on certain parts consider the way you wash your hair – it might be the problem is only shampoo residue!  If you do it in the shower chances are your scalp gets itchy on the back as it’s harder to rinse that part of scalp thoroughly in that position, so pay attention to that – divide hair as to rinse the backside of your head properly. If you wash your hair upside down, pay attention to the front part which gets harder to rinse that way!
  • never apply conditioner to your scalp, it will only make your hair greasy sooner! Hair ends is where you need it the most.
  • always finish rinsing with the coldest water you feel comfortable with – the colder the water the shinier the hair! It’s an ancient trick that never gets old – cold water closes hair cuticles and thus makes your hair shiny.
  • always apply hair serum on towel-dried hair – this way, even if you use too much of it, your hair won’t look greasy.
  • if your hair gets greasy easily always use lukewarm water – hot water will only overstimulate sebaceous glands resulting in more oil production.  Moreover, be very gentle when washing and towel-drying your hair – oil glands will get turned on (no pun intended this time!) by too much rubbing, too! 😉

My top 5 beauty products

There is a handful of beauty staples I wouldn’t be caught naked without (on nudity some other time :P) :

1.) YSL touche eclat – a well-known HG product among beauty addicts, great for covering those nasty (or perhaps naughty?!) under-eye circles. Tip:  NEVER rub it, but tap it very lightly!

2.) CLINIQUE clarifying lotion – there are very mixed opinions on this one, people seem to either love it or hate it! I’ve been using number 2  for years now and would rather give up on chocolate than this little miracle! True, my skin probably is my best organ (no pun intended this time!), but this toner makes my skin flawless. I use it in the morning and evening, before moisturizing.  My skin used to get quite flaky, especially during winter, but since I’ve been using this that doesn’t happen at all.

3.) Nivea Q10 Firming Body Lotion – I’m yet to find a better moisturizing lotion than this one! Rich but not sticky, pleasant smell, does exactly what it says…for a decent price! Could go on for pages…

4.) Dior 5-colour Eyeshadow – the only eyeshadow that I came across so far (and there were quite a few, believe me!) that could be applied without a quality brush and still get a great blendability and colour pay-off, amazing. The one below is Pink Extase, 804. Might do some swatches soon!

5.) L’oreal Lash Architect Waterproof – The thing is,  I like my makeup glamorous, meaning I’d prefer Chanel or Dior over L’oreal. Yes, I am a makeup snob. But no matter which other mascara I occasionally stray to, I always come back home to this one! Unattractive blue packaging, true, but it does wonders to otherwise average lashes. Will post before/after pics so you can see for yourself.

What are your beauty HGs, ladies and gents? 😉
